Another Soybean

Tempe. Fermented soybean cake, if you have to describe it in fancy English. This makanan sejuta umat (literally means food for millions people) is familiar for common people in Asia. This also literally for millions of Indonesian. For its so famous yet available in hundreds various menu. The one I post is spicy-sweet stirred soybean with fried ground peanut.

Tempe menu can be found in million menu and occasions, from the modest form to a fancy cuisine. You might find partly or fully tempe menu in daily meal, offerings for tradition ceremony and even as addition food for local party. For a more sophisticated menu tempe is served as kering tempe, consist of fried tempe with potato chips and anchovy.

The most popular and most simple for common people of course fried tempe. Either you just put salt and garlic on it, or a bit more effort cooking it with sweet soybean sauce, brown sugar and spicy chili. Just cant imagine Indonesian menu in family dining table without tempe. Sounds absurd.
