It does not matter that society has changed, certain matters stay the same. It does not matter that we have no boundaries as nations and states, certain people want to stay in the same era. I stay in a small province in Indonesia, and a dark parody mention that my society live in the old times...
It is not the food that makes you live in the previous era. It is the culture that redeems some food and dishes as special things, and that makes us stay in the older culture. For example, only lemper and other luxurious food are considered proper snacks or appetizers for the noble. Only certain fine fruits may be able to be served in Sultan Palace. Et cetera.
For the same reason, people still provide certain food for Idul Fitri, the very big day. And it is internalized in my family to make lemper by ourselves. It was a big day and everyone was supposed to be very busy. So, rather than easily buy some lempers, we made them in our kitchen and spent 2 hours for it. Remember, we live in yesterday, older time than today...
